When friends ask me where to get proper Vietnamese food in Vienna, I usually point them to Bui Vien Street. Not because it's trendy, but because the Pho is honest, the summer rolls are fresh, and the cocktails are surprisingly good.

The place is tucked away on Hörnesgasse 17 in the 3rd district – a few minutes from U3 Rochusgasse. Inside it's cozy without being cramped, and in summer the garden terrace is a bit of a hidden gem.

The kitchen covers the full spectrum: soups (Pho, Bun Bo Hue), starters (summer rolls, gyoza, banh mi), mains (curry, pad thai, wok dishes), and even hotpot and Vietnamese BBQ at your table.

What makes Bui Vien Street special

Three things stand out: First, the menu is big – but not confusing. Soups, starters, mains, vegan options, desserts, cocktails. It's all there. Second, there's a full vegan menu – not token dishes, but real variety. And third: Vietnamese BBQ Night (Mon, Tue, Thu) – grill at your table for two, with marinated beef, kimchi and all the fixings for €44.90.
